Fence Repair & Replacement Newcastle

Fences take a beating over the years: wind, rain, ground movement, and simple age all take their toll, and the North East’s weather doesn’t make it any easier on them. We carry out fence repair and replacement across Newcastle and Northumberland, fixing what can genuinely be fixed and replacing what can’t.

    Storm damage

Strong winds are one of the most common causes of sudden fence damage, blown-over panels, snapped posts, or sections leaning at an angle after a bad night of weather. This is one of the more frequent jobs we’re called out for, particularly after the kind of storms that regularly come in off the coast around Tynemouth and Whitley Bay. If your fence has come down or been damaged in a storm and it’s creating an immediate security or safety issue, see our Emergency Fence & Gate Repair page for faster turnaround.

  2. 02

    Rotten posts

A leaning fence is very often a post problem rather than a panel problem, timber posts rot fastest right at ground level, where they stay damp longest, and once a post has gone, the panels attached to it lose their support regardless of how sound the panels themselves still are. We can replace individual rotten posts without necessarily needing to replace the whole run of fencing, provided the panels are otherwise in reasonable condition.

  3. 03

    Damaged or broken panels

Individual panels can crack, warp, or blow out without necessarily meaning the whole fence needs replacing. We can replace single panels or sections while matching the existing style and height as closely as possible, so a repair doesn’t end up looking obviously patched.

  4. 04

When repair makes sense versus replacement

As a general rule, if the posts and foundations are sound and it’s individual panels or boards that have failed, repair is usually the more cost-effective route. If posts are rotten throughout, if the fence is old enough that most of it is nearing the end of its useful life anyway, or if damage is widespread across a long run, full replacement often makes more sense than patching section by section. We’ll assess your fence and give an honest recommendation rather than default to whichever job is bigger.

  5. 05

    Shared and boundary fences

Where a damaged fence sits on a shared boundary, it’s worth having a conversation with your neighbour about repair or replacement costs before starting, particularly if the fence has served both properties. We’re happy to provide a written quote that can be shared between both parties if that helps things move forward.

  6. 06

    Ground movement and settling

Fences can start leaning or shifting slightly over time even without a single dramatic cause, ground movement, freeze-thaw cycles through winter, and simple age all contribute gradually. If a fence has developed a slight lean without any obvious single event to explain it, it’s still worth having it checked, since gradual issues tend to accelerate once they start rather than stay static.

  7. 07

    Matching existing fencing

If you’re only replacing part of a boundary, extending an existing fence, or repairing storm damage to a longer run, we’ll do our best to match the existing style, height, and finish so the repaired section doesn’t stand out awkwardly from what’s already there.

  8. 08

Assessing the whole boundary, not just the obvious damage

When we’re called out for a specific problem, a fallen panel, a leaning section, it’s worth checking the rest of the run at the same time rather than treating each failure as an isolated event. Fencing installed at the same time tends to fail at a similar rate, so a post that’s failed at one point in a boundary is often an early sign that neighbouring posts aren’t far behind. We’ll flag anything else worth keeping an eye on while we’re already on site, rather than leave you to discover it as a separate emergency a few months later.

  9. 09

    What it costs

Pricing depends on the extent of the damage, whether it’s isolated to posts or panels or more widespread, and the length of fencing involved. We give a clear, agreed quote before starting, and we’ll tell you honestly if repair isn’t the most sensible option for your fence.

04Common questions

FAQs

My fence is leaning but the panels look fine, what’s wrong?
Most likely a rotten or failed post. This can often be fixed by replacing the post alone without needing new panels.
Can you repair storm damage quickly?
For urgent situations, yes, see our Emergency Fence & Gate Repair page. For routine storm damage, we’ll book you in as quickly as our schedule allows.
Will a repaired section match my existing fence?
We’ll do our best to match style, height, and finish as closely as possible.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a fence?
It depends on the extent and location of the damage. We’ll give an honest recommendation rather than default to the bigger job.
