Call us straight away
If you’ve got water actively overflowing or coming through somewhere it shouldn’t, call 07760 898549 or the landline on 0191 406 7071. We’ll ask what’s happening and where, and give you a realistic timeframe for getting out to clear the blockage before it causes further damage.
- 02
When it’s genuinely urgent
Water overflowing during heavy rain and running down a wall, staining appearing suddenly on an interior ceiling or wall near an exterior gutter run, or water visibly pooling and causing damage at ground level are all situations worth treating as urgent. A gutter that’s simply due a routine clear but isn’t actively causing damage can generally wait for a normal booking, see our Gutter, Fascia & Soffit Cleaning page for that.
- 03
What we do on an emergency visit
We locate and clear the blockage causing the overflow, check the rest of the run and downpipes for any further issues, and confirm water is flowing properly before we leave. If the guttering itself has failed, a joint given way, a section come away from its bracket, rather than simply blocked, we’ll assess whether an immediate repair is possible on the same visit or whether it needs a follow-up.
- 04
Storm-related blockages
Storms often cause sudden, severe gutter blockages, torn branches, displaced roof debris, moss dislodged from elsewhere on the roof, all washing into the gutter at once. This is a common reason for emergency gutter callouts after a bad spell of weather, alongside the wind damage to trees and fences we also get called out for.
- 05
Preventing repeat emergencies
Once the immediate problem is dealt with, it’s worth considering a regular gutter clearance schedule, particularly if your property has significant nearby tree cover, so blockages get caught before they become the kind of emergency that causes actual water damage. See our Gutter, Fascia & Soffit Cleaning page for routine maintenance options.
- 06
Checking for damage after the event
Once water has been overflowing for a while, it’s worth having a proper look at what it might have affected beyond the immediate overflow, staining or damp starting to show on an interior wall, damage to render or brickwork where water has been running down repeatedly, or soil erosion at ground level where it’s been discharging. We can flag anything we notice during the emergency visit itself, and advise on whether further assessment or repair work elsewhere is worth arranging.
- 07
Why gutters get overlooked until it’s urgent
Gutters sit out of sight and, for the most part, out of mind, which is exactly why blockages tend to go unnoticed until they’ve built up enough to cause an overflow. There’s rarely a dramatic single cause, just a gradual accumulation of leaves and debris that eventually reaches a tipping point, which is why prevention through a regular clearance schedule works so much better than waiting for the next emergency.
- 08
What to check while you wait
If water is actively overflowing, it’s worth moving anything valuable away from the affected wall or area if it’s safe and practical to do so, and keeping an eye on whether water is starting to find its way inside through a door frame, window, or ceiling. Let us know if that happens when you call, since active water ingress into the building itself changes how urgently we’ll prioritise getting to you.
- 09
What it costs
Emergency gutter clearance is priced at a premium to standard scheduled cleaning, reflecting the faster response. We’ll confirm cost with you on the phone before attending.

FAQs
- My gutter is overflowing in heavy rain, is that an emergency?
- If it’s causing active water damage to a wall, door, or interior, yes. A gutter that’s simply due a clean but not causing damage can usually wait for a routine booking.
- How quickly can you clear a blocked gutter in an emergency?
- Often the same day, depending on severity and our current schedule. Call us for a realistic timeframe.
- Can you repair damaged guttering on the same visit?
- Sometimes, depending on the issue. We’ll assess this on arrival and let you know if a follow-up repair visit is needed.
- How do I stop this happening again?
- A regular gutter clearance schedule catches blockages before they cause damage. See our Gutter, Fascia & Soffit Cleaning page.
