Leaf Clearance Newcastle

Autumn in Newcastle and Northumberland means one thing for most gardens: leaves, a lot of them, and often faster than anyone can keep up with raking. Left to sit, they smother lawns, turn paths and patios slippery, and build up in gutters and drains where they cause problems well beyond the garden itself. We provide seasonal leaf clearance across Newcastle and Northumberland, as a one-off autumn tidy-up or as part of a regular visit through the season.

    Why leaf clearance matters

A thick layer of wet leaves left on a lawn blocks light and air from reaching the grass underneath, and given enough time can genuinely damage or kill patches of turf, leaving bare or yellowed areas that take a full growing season to properly recover. On hard surfaces, wet leaves become a real slip hazard, particularly on paths, steps, and patios, and particularly relevant given how much rain the North East gets through autumn and winter. Left in gutters and drains, leaves contribute to blockages that can cause overflow and water damage, see our Gutter, Fascia & Soffit Cleaning page if that’s already become a problem.

  2. 02

    What’s involved

Clearance covers lawns, borders, paths, patios, and driveways, collecting and removing fallen leaves rather than just blowing them into a pile and leaving them for the wind to redistribute. For larger gardens or properties with significant tree cover, this can mean multiple visits through the season as more leaves come down, rather than a single clearance that’s out of date within a fortnight.

  3. 03

    Timing through the season

Leaf fall in the North East typically runs from October through into December depending on species and weather, with a heavier peak once the first real frosts and windy spells hit. Rather than wait for everything to come down and then attempt one large clearance, a lot of customers find a couple of visits spread through the season, once mid-autumn and again once most trees are bare, keeps things far more manageable than letting it all build up.

  4. 04

What we do with the leaves

Collected leaves are removed from site as standard. If you’d like them left for composting into leaf mould, a genuinely useful, low-effort soil improver that takes a year or two to break down, we’re happy to leave them in a suitable spot rather than take them away, just let us know before the visit.

  5. 05

    Larger properties and commercial sites

Properties with significant mature tree cover, larger gardens, grounds around commercial premises, or communal areas on managed developments generate a much greater volume of leaf fall than a typical domestic garden, and often need a more structured approach: scheduled visits through the season rather than a single clearance, and coordination around access for larger equipment where the site allows for it. We quote these on the same basis, assessing the site and agreeing a schedule that actually keeps pace with the leaf fall rather than always playing catch-up.

  6. 06

    Combining with other autumn work

Autumn is also when a lot of other seasonal garden work naturally falls: lawn scarification, hedge trims outside the main growing season, and general border tidying ahead of winter. If you’re already having other maintenance carried out, it’s often more efficient to combine leaf clearance into the same visit rather than book it separately.

  7. 07

    After the season

Once leaf fall has finished for the year, it’s worth a final check over the lawn and borders for any last debris and an assessment of whether the lawn’s taken any damage from a particularly heavy or prolonged covering. Catching and treating any bare or thinned patches early in spring gives grass the best chance to recover fully before the next growing season gets underway.

  8. 08

    What it costs

Pricing depends on the size of the garden, the extent of leaf cover, and whether it’s a single visit or a recurring arrangement through the season. Regular seasonal visits typically work out more cost-effective overall than one large clearance once everything’s built up. We give a clear, agreed quote before starting.

FAQs

When’s the best time to book leaf clearance?
Through autumn as leaves fall, typically October to December in the North East. A couple of visits spread through the season generally works better than waiting for one big clearance.
Can you clear leaves from gutters as well as the garden?
Gutter clearance is a related but separate service, see our Gutter, Fascia & Soffit Cleaning page, we’re happy to quote both together if needed.
Will you take the leaves away?
By default, yes. We can leave them for composting into leaf mould instead if you’d prefer, just let us know.
Do you offer regular visits through leaf-fall season?
Yes, this is often more effective than a single clearance, particularly for gardens with significant tree cover.
