Driveway Cleaning Newcastle
A driveway takes more punishment than almost any other surface around a property, constant weather exposure, vehicle traffic, oil and grime, and in shaded or damp spots, a steady build-up of moss and algae. We clean driveways across Newcastle and Northumberland, using the right method and pressure for the specific surface rather than a single generic approach.

Block paving
Block paving is one of the more common driveway surfaces we clean, and one where technique matters most. High-pressure washing lifts dirt and moss effectively from the block surface, but it can also blast out the jointing sand between blocks if not handled carefully, which is why re-sanding is often needed as part of the same job rather than an optional extra. We clean thoroughly and re-sand joints afterwards where needed, since paving with washed-out joints is more prone to weed growth and individual blocks shifting under vehicle weight.
- 02
Tarmac
Tarmac driveways generally handle jet washing well and respond quickly to a good clean, lifting ingrained dirt and moss from the surface without the joint-sand consideration that block paving carries. Older or already-degraded tarmac needs a slightly more careful approach, since a surface with existing cracking or wear can be more vulnerable to water forcing its way into weak points at high pressure.
- 03
Resin driveways
Resin-bound and resin-bonded surfaces need a gentler touch than tarmac or concrete. Excessive pressure can disturb the resin binding or dislodge aggregate, particularly on older installations, so we adjust pressure and technique accordingly rather than treating a resin driveway the same as a solid concrete one.
- 04
Concrete
Concrete driveways are generally durable and handle standard jet washing well, though older concrete with surface degradation, spalling, or existing cracks needs a slightly more considered approach to avoid making existing damage worse.
- 05
Weed removal and joint re-sanding
Weeds growing through paving joints or cracks aren’t just unsightly, left long enough their root systems can worsen existing cracks and lift paving. We remove weed growth as part of a driveway clean and, for block paving, re-sand joints afterwards with appropriate kiln-dried sand, which also helps suppress future weed growth by leaving less opportunity for seeds to establish in the joints.
- 06
Sealing and resealing
Once a driveway is properly cleaned, sealing can help protect the surface and joints from future dirt, moss, and weed growth, extending the time before the next clean is needed and giving a noticeably enhanced, richer finish to block paving and resin surfaces in particular. We can apply an appropriate sealant as part of the job or as a follow-up once the surface has fully dried.
- 07
Oil stains and vehicle marks
Oil and fuel stains need a different approach to general dirt and algae, sometimes a degreasing treatment ahead of the main clean to properly lift ingrained staining rather than just pressure alone. Older, deeply set stains may not lift completely, but we’ll always get the best realistic result and tell you honestly if a stain is likely to be permanent.
- 08
Moss and algae
Moss and algae thrive on driveways that don’t get much direct sun, common on north-facing or tree-shaded properties across Newcastle’s older, more established streets. Beyond the immediate clean, moss and algae regrowth can be slowed with an appropriate biocide treatment applied after cleaning, worth considering if a driveway has a persistent problem rather than an occasional one.
- 09
Ahead of a sale or viewing
A driveway is usually the first thing anyone sees when they arrive at a property, whether that’s a potential buyer, a tenant viewing a rental, or simply visitors to your home. A thorough clean and reseal ahead of a sale, let, or a big event is one of the more cost-effective ways to lift a property’s overall first impression, and it’s a common request we get for exactly that reason.

Commercial driveways and car parks
Beyond domestic driveways, we clean larger commercial hardstanding, car parks, and access roads for businesses across Newcastle and Northumberland, where surface condition affects both appearance and, in some cases, genuine safety around slip risk in wet or icy conditions.

What it costs
Pricing depends on the size of the driveway, the surface type, the extent of dirt or moss build-up, and whether re-sanding or sealing is included. We give a clear, agreed quote before starting.

FAQs
- Will jet washing damage my block paving joints?
- It can if not handled carefully, which is why we re-sand joints as part of the job where needed rather than leave them washed out.
- Is resin driveway cleaning different from other surfaces?
- Yes, resin needs lower pressure and a gentler approach to avoid disturbing the binding or aggregate.
- Can you remove oil stains from a driveway?
- Often significantly, sometimes fully, depending on how long the stain has been there. We’ll give an honest assessment before starting.
- Does sealing a driveway actually help?
- Yes, it protects the surface and joints and slows dirt, moss, and weed regrowth, extending the time before the next full clean is needed.
